This trance session supports participants to let go of impurities. The Aztec goddess Tlazolteotl was a mother goddess often shown giving birth to the god of corn. She is a goddess of vice, purification, steam baths, midwives, lust, filth, and a patroness of adulterers. She heals by cleansing misdeeds and impurities, especially those of the heart. In trance, people often experience her steam bath in the trance and sweat out their impurities. Like the fertile earth that gains its energy from death and in turn sustains life, she takes garbage and filth and transforms it into fullness and plenty. Inverting the usual order of sacred and profane, Tlazolteotl facilitates healing by consuming the shame and guilt of participants. We “feed” her our regret, especially impurities of the heart, as well as our sweat, and she leaves us clean and renewed.

As always, those new to ecstatic trance are welcome. We take an experimental approach to trance studies so one need not subscribe to any particular set of beliefs in order to experience what the session offers and interpret it as most appropriate for ourselves.
This session will be facilitated by Dawn Thompson (Dawn of the New Era) and conducted over Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/2155256270... Meeting ID: 215 525 6270 Passcode: 357205

As you go into trance, think about your guilts and regrets. Feed them to her. Let them be steamed away. The goddess Tlazolteotl forgives and cleans us, leaving us pure. She gives advice about how to avoid future regret.

Posture
Square your shoulders, let your arms hand down at your sides and place your cupped hands with your fingernails facing forward and up in front of your heart. How you hold your face is central to the posture. Pull your bottom lip into your mouth, showing your upper teeth.

Altar: Put the altar in the east/fire direction.

In Preparation
✹ Don't have alcohol on the day of the trance, and don't eat at least a half-hour before the session.
✹ Put your altar in the west and face the altar when you do the trance. Have a candle, incense, and offering on the altar ready to light when we start the zoom call. The offering should be something like nuts, seeds, cornmeal.
✹Have food and drink ready for after the trance when we talk.
✹ Be sure to show up on time. We lock the zoom meeting right after it starts.
✹ After the meeting, take the offering outside to the creatures who live there.
